Activity In The Pub

Running an Activity in the Pub is a great way to meet other people near you who are into the Fediverse

Want to run an Activity in the Pub/Park in your community? We've created the resources below and figured out the steps so it'll only take you a few hours to run one of these events.

Preparation Steps

Make A Reservation

Set a date and call up pub to make a reservation. This is one place where larger chain pubs or sports bars are often a lot better at accomodating a crowd.

You can always reserve a larger table and then call up the day before the event and reduce your numbers.

Create An Event Poster

Create a poster image for the event using the templates for either Activity in the Pub or Activity in the Park. If you don't know how to change these files for your event message your date & location to @paige@canadiancivil.com and he'll generate you one.

Create A Mobilizon Event

Find an appropriate Mobilizon server and create an account. Post the event using the Event Poster image as the image in the event. FediHost will host a mobilizon instance for Activity in the Pub if there is enough interest in running these.

Microblog

Using Mastodon or similar post the image, a link to Mobilizon and the details in the description. Tag it with your #City #Country and #ActivityInThePub and share the link with friends to repost.

Printed Materials

Table Signs

Print these table signs and put them inside a clear plastic display stand which can be purchased from any office supply store. These signs are important, approaching a table of people is hard enough and it's important to make sure that it's clear. Events in bars almost always have attendees miss the table and go home disappointed.

Stickers

The stickers are a lot less important than the signs but a nice thing to do. Print on full size A4/Letter sticker paper and cut.

The Day Before

Post a reminder on your microblogging service showing the table signs so people know what to look for.
Call up the pub to confirm the reservation, it's surprisingly frequent that reservations get misplaced.
Pack signs, stickers and pens

Day of Event

Arrive early and place the table signs. Enjoy the event and don't forget to take some photos to share with the fediverse!
